I think that Pap Finn is a bad person overall. I mean we don't really know his history or anything so we can't assume, but no man should want to do that to their child. He is a drunk, which is not good, and he beats Huck. He even scolded Huck because he could read! How bad is that?.. You should be happy for your child if they were the first ones to read in the family. I think that Pap Finn would have to do a lot of things to overcome alcoholism and I also don't think that Huck would ever forgive him for what he has done. Also Huck probably doesn't like not having a father, which I do feel sorry for Huck.
ReplyDeleteI think that Pap Fin is very mean. He is an alcoholic and whenever he can get his hands on some money, he spends it on beer. He abuses Huck and makes him do things. I also think that Pap Fin is using Huck for his money.
ReplyDeleteThe opinion I form of Pap Finn is that he is a major alcoholic. All he talks about is getting his whiskey and when he has it he is not a nice guy. I feel like he is very abusive and strict and mean to Huck even sometimes when he's not drunk. I don't think he is at all a father figure and I'm glad Huck doesn't take after him!
ReplyDeleteI thought Pap Finn was a mean drunk, and he didn't care about Huck. He wanted Huck to make him money, and he beats Huck. So I think that he is a bad person.
ReplyDeleteHuck seems like a very strong person inside. He didn't back down from the gang nor his own father. Even though huck isn't very intelligent, because he doesn't want or get any schooling, he seems very common sense smart. He is a little boy getting ready for a mans adventure, down the river.
ReplyDeleteI think that Pap Finn is a lazy drunk. All he does is drink and take advantage of people. He takes money from his son or finds things and takes them into town to make some money. When he gets money he spends it on alcohol right away. Also, when he's drunk he gets really violent.
ReplyDeleteHe is a drunk who doesn't care for anyone than himself. All he wanted was Huck's money that is why he took him.
ReplyDeleteChelsee-- I agree with you 100% haha. I don't think it'd be a bad thing to read, his dad is crazy for getting mad at him about that!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Laursen, because Pap Fin is a very mean person, specially when he gets his hands on alcohol, which is any chance he gets.
ReplyDeleteBrooke--- I think I would describe Huck the same way. He is very smart, even though he is gullible, he is till brave and has a lot of courage for a young boy like himself!!
ReplyDeleteI think he is a drunk that is never going to change. Hes been given the chance to change already and blew it. Racism seems pretty common at that time. They are not afraid to use racist terms or names. He is physically drained from being left in the cabin all the time. He is also psychologically harmed from his drunk father.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Blake, he is a major alcoholic, and he wants Huck to make him money. Then he will spend they money on alcohol.
ReplyDeleteI think that he is a mean person and it just spikes when he gets drunk. As soon as he has something to drink he goes on a rampage and i think all he cares about is the money his son has. He has a lot of problems and needs to stop his drinking. Overall i think that he is a bad person and should not be near his son.
ReplyDeleteHuck physically sounds like a well good boy strong and fit very active in his young days. Seems lazy for most of the time and has no problem getting work done just doesn't want to do it. Mentally Huck seems to not have a imagination because with all that has happened in his life there is no room for imagination, he is very realistic at his age.
ReplyDeleteChelsee-- i think youre right about the part where we dont know his past history and background. maybe his father did the same to him and he didnt know anything but this. I do know he was offered a chance to change by the judge and he still took the alcohol instead. That was a bad choice but can your really stop a drunk in one day? The fact that to court didnt want to take Huck away was appalling though.
ReplyDeleteAlyssa...Specially the way huck stands up to his father, I would like be scared and maybe possibly take the beating or harms my father through my way But Huck doesn't, which shows how strong he really is.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Brooke. Huck is really brave and he does what he wants and he doesn't submit and do whatever his dad wants him to do. Huck isn't very book smart, but he is pretty smart and creative when it comes to making plans. He's also willing to work hard when he needs to get something done.
ReplyDeleteI agree with gretchen i think pap finn is a very lazy drunk. All he does with any money he has is spend it on alcohol, then he gets drunk and beats huck. All he wants with his son is the money that huck has so he can go and spend it on himself. He is a very violent man when drunk and even when hes not drunk.
ReplyDeleteI really pitty him for being a drunk, racist person who beats his own son. If he wasn't so addicted to being drunk maybe he and huck could get along. Him and his father are into the same things like fishing and doing nothing. The only thing that huck didn't like was the amount of his drinking and his violence. Maybe if he wasn't drunk so long he could learn to control his anger and learn to be less racist. Then they could actually be a family. But he is addicted to the buzz and as long as he is he won't be able to think clearly enough to realize what he has in huck. Even if he does stop drinking like he did with the judge, he'll still remember the buzz and seek it out. He has to admit he has a problem.
ReplyDeleteBrooke- I agree with you that Huck is a strong person. He has to be strong, I mean look at his father! I also agree that Huck may not be book smart, but he has a lot of common sense and knows what to do in situations. I also have to say that Huck is very gullible and very realistic person probably the way he was brought up.
ReplyDeletePap's comments about the professor showed that racism is alive, well, and alright to those in the south.
ReplyDeleteI think that Pap Finn is a terrible person. He throws away his life by drinking excessively, and then takes it out on Huck and makes Huck give him money to drink some more and beats Huck if he doesn't come up with the money. When he was taken in to try to become a better person, he lied to them and said that he was gonna be a better person, but then he snuck away that night and drank too much and broke his arm.
ReplyDeletePap's comments about the professor illustrate racism because he constantly refers to the professor as a nigger and and argues about the government because they are giving him too many rights, such as voting, and that he shouldn't even have a job but he can't become a slave for 6 months and Pap doesn't think thats right.
Physically, Huck is beaten and tired. His body is covered with welts from Pap beating him and he doesn't get much sleep because Pap is constantly waking up and yelling. Psychologically Huck seems to be doing fine, but is probably shaken up or scared from Pap trying to kill him the night before.
I agree with Joe, he is a drunk and thats not going to change. And racism is very common at that time. He is also psychologically harmed from his father.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joe. He will never change and he had the chance and he did blow it. He is a major racist and he has to sit home all of the time.
ReplyDeletePap's comments about the black professor show that people in that time were very racist. Pap didn't think that a black man should ever have a good job like that because he thought that blacks were stupid and trashy. Many people felt that way at that time and some people still act that way.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jeff because all that Pap wanted was Huck's money and he's trying to get custody of him just for his money
ReplyDeleteJoey- I agree with you, except on the pitying part. I agree that if his father stopped drinking and learned to control himself, he would get along with Huck just fine.
ReplyDeleteBrooke-- i agree with half of this. I do believe Huck is a smart kid its just he doesnt want to tap into it. I likes being lazy and relaxed. He was smart enough to get away from his pap after awhile so i do believe he's an intelligent kid.
ReplyDeleteJoey i agree with you. If he didn't drink so much then him and Huck could be a lot closer together then they are now. It would at least help him from beating his son.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree wih Blake. He may be a mean person, but the only reason he is so is because he is an alchoholic. That contributes to his meanness and him using huck for money. He can also be good and civilized like he was with the judge, as long as there is no alchohol.
ReplyDeleteHuck isnt all that inteligant, but he is very brave. Huck is very creative in making plans and is a hard worker. Like when he found a way out of the cabin and faked his own death, that was brilliant and took some very creative planning.
ReplyDeleteJoey- I agree with you that he is a racist person and a drunk. I also think that if he stopped drinking, he might be a good dad. I also agree that he should definitely admit that he has a problem with drinking. If I were Huck, I would want to get out of there too.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joey, because he actually might want to change, but he's addicted to the alcohol and would go into withdrawl if he tried to quit.
ReplyDeletegretchen-- i agree! you hit it right on the nose. people back then were very racist. Blacks were not respected as anything but slaves and i think that whites would feel threatened if blacks had a higher position then them.. which is what pap probably thought.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jeff. Who in their right mind would want their kid back for the money? Only a person addicted to something could cause that.
ReplyDeletePaps comments to the proffesor tell me atleast that people in that period of time were very racist. Pap was going on about how a black could become a high paying professor at a school and that they shouldn't be treated like whites should and that blacks were nothing but slaves and trash and many people probly would have agreed with him at the time. (i am not racist by saying black)
ReplyDeleteI partly disagree with Gretchen. Pop's comments were indeed racist and some people back then thought that way too. It didn't mean that all of the people back then were racist, some thought black's were just as smart as we do now. Huck is going to be a perfect example of how not all of the people were racist.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the blogging first period English. I guess I will just stay away and let you figure all this out for yourself. Remember this book is pre-Civil War, so slavery was legal in the South, but northern states did not have slavery, so the professor was free.
ReplyDeletei think that pap is a jerk because he gets drunk ask for money than gets mad and the cycle starts over again. and he also only likes huck for his money
ReplyDeletePap Finn , to me , isn't a good person. He threatens his son and hurts him. He is a drunk and does things that people who where sober wouldn't do and would be ashamed of. If he really cared about Huck he would let the widow or the judge take custody of him, but it shows that he doesn't care. It bugged me when they went to the trial and the new judge didn't give the widow custody of Huck. His father goes and gets drunk, walks around , and then gets put in jail. That isn't good parenting to me.
ReplyDeleteeven though slavery was legal it seemed to be thought of that white people were superior to black people
ReplyDeleteI think that Pap Finn is a alcoholic, and an abusive parent. I don't think that he is a very good person, or a suitable parent. I know if I were Huck I wouldn't want to be around or have a father that thought he was the angel of death. I think in a way Pap might feel bad for what his life has turned into, but I don't think that Huck will ever be able to forgive him for what he has become and what he has done to Huck.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Gretchen when she said that Pap is a lazy drunk. He is and doesn't do a darn thing. He does take things from his son like money and other things.
ReplyDeleteat the time, Pap wouldn't have been considered racist. It was quite common then to make such comments about people who didn't share the same race as you. On the other hand, Pap is a very bad father. His priorities are all mixed up, he is a drunk, and it makes me sorry for Huck.
ReplyDeletePap i think is a person who is so far down the road he is on that he just can't go back. His addiction to alcohol is the main problem. He beats his son, locks him up and takes his money. Pap is a dangerous person who needs to be put behind bars.
ReplyDeletei dont like pap at all. he is mean to huck and all he really cares about is himself and his opinions
ReplyDeletethat you could say anything about anyone to anyone. pap thinks hes right and he will let people know about it
he has become lazy just sitting in the cabin. he now dosnt want to go back to the civilized world. he likes his lot in life except for getting locked in the cabin and the beatings
I agree with Emily, if Pap wanted to be a good parent he would give up custody of Huck till he could straighten himself out and become a responsible parent.
ReplyDeletePop Finn is not a very good person. He always takes Huck's money and only keeps him around to take money from Huck. Pop always beats Huck. Pop is never sober and is always drinking. He is a mean drunk and takes his pain and anger out on poor Huck.
ReplyDeleteRobert-- racism at the time was okay in the South. I don't like it myself, but that is what they thought was okay. And Pap was drunk when he was rambling on about the person.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Maggie back then people wouldn't have thought much about what they were saying to another fellow human who happens to be African American. Back then in the southern states it was just the way they had there mind set and they thought they were right and no one was going to change their minds about.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Maggie when she said that Pap wouldn't have been considered a racist in the book, because of the time period. It was common to hear the things we are reading back then, but today Pap would be considered a racist.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jenna when she talks about Pap not being a suitable parent. He isn't home all the time and he is a drunk. Huck should be taken away from him.
ReplyDeletei agree with fallinej12, that would have been best. but it couldn't happen like that back then. there was no such thing as social services and whatnot.
ReplyDeleteHuck is an overall wearing, straw in his mouth, dirty young kid. He is very logical and doesn't understand imagination. Huck thinks he can do what ever he wants. He thinks he can handle things by himself. He knows how to live off the land by himself.
ReplyDeletei think pap is a jerk and he's a drunk and uses huck to get money and then waste it on alcohona or however you spell it
ReplyDeleteI think pap is a cold hearted drunk. He doesn't care about anyone but himself and uses Huck only to benefit him. All he does is drink and abuse his son and complain about how unfair his life is to him, while he's the one who screwed up his life in the first place.
